New Zealand may have already been crowned Sevens World Series Champions the previous weekend but there was still plenty to play for as Rugby HQ staged the final round of this years tournament.
Going into the competition and there was the honour of finishing runners-up to fight for whilst a number of nations were battling at the wrong end of the standings to avoid relegation. Every team was looking to sign off this season in style and with plenty of silverware to contest the fans were certainly left entertained across the weekend.
New Zealand signed off the season in style by claiming their first London title since 2007, defeating Australia convincingly 47-12 in the Cup Final. In a double celebration for the All Blacks, they also got their hands on the overall HSBC Sevens World Series title for the 11th time in only 14 years.
England impressed in front of a partisan home crowd and for the second successive tournament, finished in third place to finish in 6th place in the end of season standings. A 26-19 victory of Kenya saw the hosts Dan Norton take his tally to 10 tries in London whilst finishing the overall leading try and points scorer through the Series.
Elsewhere in the competition and Fiji prevented the USA winning their third consecutive Plate Final with a 14-5 win whilst Wales also claimed silverware with a 19-7 victory over France in the Bowl Final.
Rounding up the action and Scotland, Portugal and Spain all re-qualified to ensure they will be taking part in all nine rounds of the 2013/14 season.
