England’s build up to the Rugby World Cup started well with a 23-19 win over Wales. Tries from James Haskell and Manu Tuilagi along with a great kicking performance by Jonny Wilkinson sealed England’s first win in the new “All Black” strip.
The pre-match talk was all about the new kit rather than what we were going to expect on the pitch and this. To an extent this overshadowed the game. Even though both teams were trying out new ideas in preparation for the Rugby World Cup, we still experienced another classic game between two fierce rivals.
Delon Armitage, Matt Stevens and Simon Shaw all performed well along with the centre partnership of Riki Flutey and try scorer Tuilagi. Wales outscored England in terms of tries thanks to Shane Williams and a George North double however did not complete the comeback they would have been hoping for. England shall be hoping for the same result when they visit Cardiff this weekend in their traditional white kit and Wales introduce their new black shirt.
