We all proudly wear the colours of the team we support, whether it is from the place we were born or simply adopting a new team as you grow up. Whilst you wont find many fans sporting the colours of their rivals, that doesn’t mean you still can’t appreciate the array of colourful offerings on display around the world.
Many rugby teams are defined by the colours of their shirt, designs that form the thread of the club and have a proud heritage and tradition associated with them. Even non-rugby fans, if there are any, could identify the famous colours of the world’s biggest clubs.
Of course, club bias aside, 2012 has been another successful year with the leading brands creating designs that are as distinct as they are practical. Our choices are sure to divide opinion but then again again, whether we admit it or not, we all get a little excited when it comes to finding out the design that we are going to be sporting over the coming season and wearing with pride.
125 years of history, blood, sweat and tears has gone into creating this latest iconic British & Irish Lions rugby shirt, which has been sported by true legends of the game.
In keeping with a traditional appearance, the famous university red tone is applied in two subtle hooped shades across the jersey for a look high on heritage. The enlarged Lions badge takes pride of place stitched atop the left chest whilst Adidas’s logo adorns the right side of the chest along with their signature three stripes taking on a white tone over the shoulder and sleeves. To compete the look, the HSBC sponsor decorates the centre of the chest.
As a subtle finishing touch, the back of the neck is proudly decorated with a small gold badge celebrating the 125th anniversary tour.
Famed for their rugby shirts as much as their on-field ability, this latest offering from Stade Francais is an eccentric piece of attire which you come to expect from the pioneers of pink on the rugby field.
A vibrant cocktail of trademark pink and navy sits in bands across the front and back of the rugby shirt whilst dark navy runs down both sides. For an added touch of class, Adidas’s three silver stripes feature along the shoulders whilst the Stade Francais badge is stitched centrally beneath the round-neck collar.
In typical Stade Francais fashion, pink flowers have been incorporated into the design across the chest for a truly unique and somewhat iconic look. The wording “Stade Francias Paris” is also printed in small pink lettering down the front of the shirt.
The iconic red rose is ready to blossom as England Rugby welcomes Canterbury to the team.
Taking inspiration from the purple tracksuits sported by the players during the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s, the purple tone to this new England rugby shirt reintroduces the distinct look and honours that tradition. As is customary, the England red rose takes up pride of place atop the left chest whilst the Canterbury branding is sported in a classy gold tone on the right side.
To complete the new look, a small St George’s flag has been incorporated onto the reverse of the collar, with red replaced by an elegant gold tone.
No longer the new boys on the international rugby stage, Italy have made significant progress over the years and have bridged the gap between them and their Northern Hemisphere counterparts.
As is befitting of the Azzurri, an elegant craft blue tone is applied across the jersey and sees the Italia badge elegantly stitched atop the left chest. For a classy look, the Adidas logo is decorated in silver on the right chest whilst their signature three stripes run atop the sleeves in the same tone. As a subtle yet fine finishing touch, the Italian flag is embroidered onto the back of the collar.
For optimum comfort and performance, this Italy rugby shirt employs Adidas’s innovative ClimaCool technology. This provides moisture management to help keep players and fans alike cool for when the action really starts to heat up.
The most successful English club in league rugby history, with a record nine titles, you can almost feel the mighty roar as you pull on this rugby shirt.
A traditional green, white and red stripes are still in place but with this latest design a tiger pattern offers a truly unique offering that roars with pride when worn by both players and fans alike. The Leicester Tigers badge is stitched atop the left chest whilst the Canterbury CCC logo features on the opposite side.
This is a replica of the Leicester Tigers rugby shirt as worn by the likes of Toby Flood, Geordan Murphy and Martin Castrogiovanni.
