Super League returned last weekend and Sam Tomkins picked up from where he left off last season. The Wigan full back was crowned the 2012 Man of Steel and continued his form into his sides first match. He grabbed himself a hat-trick in a 42-0 win over the Salford City Reds.
It looks set to be another busy 12 months for Tomkins with a full season of Super League and the Rugby League World Cup in the Autumn. Another run out in rugby union could also be on the cards after his impressive performance for the Barbarians last year. We had the opportunity to ask the 23 year old a few questions about the season ahead, the boots that he wears and his plans for the future. This is what he had to say:
Are you looking forward to the new 2013 season with the Rugby League World Cup coming to the UK towards the end of the year?
Yeah, it gives the players another reason to play their best with international places up for grabs.
Why did you choose XBlades as your boots?
Well I need my boots to be light and comfortable so these are perfect for me.
You will be wearing a range of different boots over the season, why the mix?
XBlades boots are lightweight so they are ideal for someone in my position. They look good too!
Do you have a favourite colour of boot?
The brighter the better!
Do you wear any different styles for training?
No I train in what I play in.
What’s the main thing that you look for in your boots?
Something that catches peoples eye.
Do you watch your brother Joel’s matches for Saracens?
Yeah whenever I can. I’m still learing the rules!
What advice would you give young players?
Keep enjoying yourself playing rugby. If you’re not enjoying it, change something.
You have previously been linked with the NRL and rugby union, would you consider either of these options in the future?
Yeah I’d consider it when the time comes. I’m focused on Wigan and England at the moment.
