Lovell Rugby- Team Of The Year 2010

The time has come again. Here in the office, much debate has gone again into picking the Lovell Rugby World Team Of The Year 2010. It really has been another vintage year for Rugby. After much deliberation, here is our team of the year:

15- Mils Muliaina- New Zeealand

The All Blacks and Waikato Chiefs Full Back (Who Wears Adidas Predator RX Rugby Boots), helped the All Blacks have another fine season and grand slam European Tour. Has now won 94 All Blacks Caps. The new Laws perfectly suite his brilliant counter attacking. Was closely pushed by the Wallabies Full Back Kurtley Beale.

14- James O’connor- Australia

The Western Force Wing/Full Back (Who Wears Puma V-10 Rugby Boots) has had a real break through year. Despite still being just 20 has showed he is a World Class player Already. Has played the majority of games for the Wallabies this season and scored some really important tries. Has also added Goal Kicking to his Skills, as he is currently the Wallabies main kicker.

 13- Conrad Smith- New Zealand

A Big season from the Wellington Hurricanes and All Blacks Centre. Is a player who never gets the rave reviews from press but always delivers. Has been a mainstay of the All Blacks midfield. A great defensive organiser and one of the few All Blacks to have his starting place cemented.

12- Sonny Bill Williams- New Zealand

A great break through season for the giant Canterbury Crusaders centre. Started the year with Toulon in the Top 14 France, helping them reach the Amlin Challenge Cup Final. Was signed by the NZRU and decided to Join New Zealand’s leading team Canterbury. Made a fantastic impact in the NPC with Canterbury scoring tries and creating chances with his amazing off loading skills. Has now created a fascinating selection headache for Graham Henry with Ma’a Nonu, who himself is a World Class Centre.

11- Chris Ashton- England

A fantastic season for the Northampton Saints flyer Chris Ashton. Has now made himself England’s first choice wing. Has also been on fire for the Saints. In addition has developed his overall game to add to his lethal finishing. The former Wigan Rugby league player (Who wears Nike CTR Rugby Boots) will be looking for a big 2011 with the World Cup Looming. Scored one of the tries of the year in November, when England defeated Australia, when he raced home nearly the length of the pitch.

10- Dan Carter- New Zealand

Another Fantastic Season for whom many consider the Worlds Best Rugby player. Picked an ankle injury that required surgery that kept him out for a couple of months. Came back firing and had a brilliant European Tour. Carter (Who wears Adidas Predator RX Rugby Boots) will be looking for a big Super 15 with the Crusaders to start a massive year with 2011 Rugby World Cup starting in September. Furthermore is now the world’s leading points scorer in International Rugby after overtaking Jonny Wilkinson. Quade Cooper pushed him hard, but overall Carter gets our vote.

9- Ben Youngs- England

A fantastic break Through season in International Rugby for the young Leicester Tigers Scrum Half. Combines his crisp passing with some trademark breaks. Scored a wonder try in his second start against the Wallabies in the Summer. In addition has a fantastic kicking game. Has formed a great half back combination at club and country with Fly Half Toby Flood.

8- Pierre Spies- South Africa

A great year for the Springboks and Blue Bulls Number 8. Has great hands and is a great lineout forward. An awesome physical player with fantastic speed in the loose. Spies (who wears Adidas R15 Rugby Boots) will be looking for a big 2011 and World Cup after cruelly missing the last one through illness.

7- Richie McCaw- New Zealand

Another vintage year for the All Blacks captain (Who Wears The New R15 Adidas Rugby Boots). Won the IRB Player of the year and rightly so. Has lead the All Blacks brilliantly and himself adapted to the new breakdown laws with great effect. Had some classic encounters with the Wallabies David Pocock.

6- Stephen Ferris- Ireland

The Ulsterman is fastly developing into a world class Flanker. The Ulster blindside flanker (Who wears Asics Warno Rugby Boots) is highly effective ball carrier and great lineout option. Stayed with Ulster despite offers from Stade Francais.

5- Victor Matfield- South Africa

The Blue Bulls second row has put in another big season winning the Super 14. Was also captain of the recent Boks Tour to Europe. Superb in the Line out and gets around the park well. Matfield (Who Wears Puma King H8 Rugby Boots) recently became the 2nd Bok to win over 100 caps.

4- Brad Thorn- New Zealand

The Veteran All Blacks second row continues to get better and better. His work rate round the field is a key factor in the pace the All Blacks play at. A good lineout out forward and fantastic ball carrier.

3- Tendai Mtawarira- South Africa

The Beast had a big 2010. His season was slightly marred by allegations his passport was invalid and  should not play for Boks. Had this overuled and returned to have a strong season for the Sharks and South Africa.

2-Dylan Hartley- England

A tough one here in the office. In the end went down between Bismark Du Plessis and the England Hooker. Hartley edged it as he has started more international games this year. Being made captian of the Northampton Saints has added a extra dimension.

1 Gethin Jenkins- Wales

The Cardiff Blues and Wales Prop (Who Wears Adidas Adipure Flanker Rugby Boots) makes our team for the second year running. Another great season for Jenkins, will be looking for a big year to help the Blues and Wales fight for Trophies.
