Inspired by the Streets of Bo-Kaap - adidas adizero Malice 'Cape Town'
December 09, 2016
This weekend sees the sevens circuit return to the beautiful city of Cape Town for only the second time in its history for the second leg of this seasons tournament. Over the course of the 2016/17 World Rugby Sevens Series, adidas will be releasing a series of limited edition boots, starting off with the Cape Town adizero Malice.
When you think of Cape Town you don’t necessarily think Bo-Kaap. The city is normally associated with the Western Cape, Table Mountain, Robin Island and beautiful long white beaches, but adidas have opted for bright colours with the first of 5 limited addition adizero Malice boots. This boot takes its inspiration from the vibrant streets of Bo-Kaap, an area famous for its brightly coloured houses on either side of the street that celebrates the district’s Muslim identity.
In earlier days, all the houses of Cape Town were painted white. Then the residents of Bo-Kaap began painting their houses in vivid colours in preparation for the celebration of Eid. Neighbours would often agree on what colours to use so as not to have a clash of shades. Since then, the area has become a bit of a tourist attraction, so if you’re looking for a bit of South African culture, then Bo-Kaap is a good place to start.
The design is a clever mix of history and colour and we expect to see a fair few of the 7’s players wearing these beauties this weekend in the Cape Town stadium in Green Point.
