The Offload's Summer Tests Team of the Week
June 11, 2018
How do the All Blacks do it? How did the Wallabies do it? How didn’t England do it? These are just a few of the questions we’re asking ourselves today at The Offload.
There was a full day of rugby for us to get through over the course of Saturday, and whilst it was a long slog the quality of action on the pitch kept us entertained throughout. We’ve been back through it this morning in order to whittle down our shortlist of players that stood out in order to create our ‘Team of the Week’. Check out the team below and let us know your thoughts over on Facebook or Instagram.
South Africa have the highest representation with 6 players, led by our ‘Player of the Weekend’ Faf De Klerk. The Sale Sharks scrum-half was busy throughout; constantly looking to play the game at pace and be a general nightmare for England. He’s joined by teammates Steven Kitshoff, RG Snyman, Duane Vermeulen, Sbu Nkosi & Willie le Roux.
Earlier in the day, New Zealand took 40 minutes to warm up against France and had we picked this side based on first-time half performances then we doubt that there would be an All Black in sight. Fast forward 40 minutes and Rieko Ioane had taken his tally to thirteen tries in 14 appearances, whilst Codie Taylor showed us why he could play with #12 on his back rather than #2. Scott Barrett & Anton Lienert-Brown also make our XV from the weekend.
Wales showed their strength in depth down in San Juan, with the relatively inexperienced international quartet of Dillon Lewis, James Davies, Rhys Patchell & Hadleigh Parkes all displaying the skills and know-how to play at the top-level.
It was a team-performance from the Wallabies to put an end to Ireland’s unbeaten run, but one man stood out on his return to the Test arena. Describing the performance of David Pocock as ‘immense’ would be an understatement! Dominant around the tackle area, forcing a number of turnovers and ruck penalties, Pocock showed just how important his is to Australia when he picked the perfect line off Will Genia to score.
