The Offload's Top 5 2017/18 Shirts
27 September, 2017
The 2017/18 season has started and although it’s nice to see our favourite teams and players back in action, here at The Offload we are more interested in what our favourite teams/players are wearing.
A new season means new kit launches, but which shirts stand out from the crowd? It wasn’t easy to pick out just 5 jerseys, but after a (semi-heated) debate here in the office we managed to whittle it down to these…
In typical Harlequins fashion, this design pushes the boundaries with adidas creating a bright and vibrant shirt that certainly catches the eye. The design comes from adidas’ ‘Defend Your Territory’ theme for autumn/winter 2017, with a battle-worn camouflage pattern incorporating the quintessential Harlequins diamond. Visually this is one of the best looking 2017/18 shirts and even if you’re not a true Quins supporter, you have to admire the beauty of this striking jersey.
Wasps celebrate their 150th year anniversary this season and have designed a shirt to commemorate the momentous occasion. Inspired by Wasps’ rich history and combined with Under Armour’s innovative technology, this shirt has an old school look with a new school feel. The shirt also sees the return of the golden Wasps logo on the chest as featured in some of the club’s earliest team photos. We like a clean and simple looking jersey so this certainly ticks all the boxes for us here at The Offload.
The 2017/18 Leinster jersey sees a return to the classic Leinster blue, but with a modern twist. The shirt features a striking tonal checkerboard motif on the front and back, with each square featuring irregular patterns which has been designed to disguise a player’s movements to opposition tacklers. Canterbury have really excelled with this one, not only is it a hit with the local supporters but it has had great feedback from neutral fans all over the world.
For obvious reasons, we are big fans of both the home and alternate shirts! Another unique Canterbury design, the Ospreys 2017/18 alternate jersey comes in the traditional away style of white with black trim, a familiar scheme with alternate Ospreys shirts. The design focuses on the bedrock of the region, with the hoop design sublimated across the body, depicting the historic foundations of Ospreylia. With Lovell Rugby’s logo featuring as the main sponsor on the front of the shirt, this is by far the best-looking jersey to have ever been produced!
French shirts have been a bit hit and miss in the past, but Montpellier have got it spot on with this 2017/18 jersey. The design pairs the traditional dark body with a striking electric blue top half, with a pinstriped fade around the chest area fusing the two together. We are a massive fan of the light blue/dark body combo and for that reason, it makes our top 5.
