We are now nearly two weeks in to the Rugby World Cup and the favourites are all beginning to put their stamp on the competition. New Zealand brushed aside Japan, England started slow against Georgia however gradually stepped up the pace and South Africa comfortably defeated Fiji.
England winger Chris Ashton scored his first tries of the tournement in a pair of Nike CTR Boots, Sonny Bill Williams took up a new position on the wing in Adidas RS7s and Ireland Number 8 Jamie Heaslip took the game to Australia in the Puma V1.11. We have also spotted Samoa forward Anthony Perenise in a pair of Mizuno Wave Ignitus 2 Boots and South African Danie Roussow wearing Puma Powercat C 1.10s.
Ex-rugby league man Ashton added to his impressive try scoring record for England with a double against Georgia. The winger finished his first try with his famous swallow dive and sealed the win with a score in the final play of the game.
Sonny Bill Williams
Another rugby league convert features in this weeks boot spotting. The New Zealand man came off the bench against Japan to score two tries in his new position on the wing. Has the New Zealand coach Graham Henry found a way of playing Sonny Bill in the same team as Ma’a Nonu and Conrad Smith?
The reputation of Jamie Heaslip seems to improve after every game that he plays. Another solid performance against Australia showed everyone that he is still the player that travelled to South Africa with the Lions two years ago.
After years of the South African second row being Matfield and Botha, it seems that Danie Roussow is finally being given the opportunity to show the coaching team what he can bring to the team. It will be interesting to see which pairing is selected as the competition progresses.
