Leinster retained the Heineken Cup after a 42-12 win over Ulster at Twickenham last Saturday. It is the third time that the Dublin based side have won the competition in the past four seasons making them one of the greatest club sides of all time. Tries from Sean O’Brien, Cian Healy, Sean Cronin and Heinke Van der Merwe along with a penalty try helped the side on their way.
Boot spotted from the final were man-of-the-match Sean O’Brien in the latest R15’s, Ulster prop John Afoa in Puma Powercats and Brian O’Driscoll in Black/High Energy Orange Adidas Predators. Also spotted are Ulsters only try scorer on the day Dan Tuohy who wore a pair of Asics and Jamie Heaslip in Puma V1.11 boots.
If O’Brien can carry this performance in to Irelands summer tests and in to next season, the Lions selectors will have a big decision to make with regards to who to start at 7 in the first test. We also notice he has put his own white laces on the boots to make them stand out.
One of Ulsters better players in the game and gained ground whenever he had the ball. Afoa will be returning to Twickenham this weekend when he makes his debut for the Barbarians against England in the annual friendly match.
It seems the centre was watching Sonny Bill Williams highlights whilst he was injured as he through a superb pass out the back of his hand leading up to the Cian Healy try. Hopefully he can stay injury free for the next 12 months and be in peak condition for the Lions tour.
Tuohy was the only Ulster player that managed to cross the line on Saturday after finishing off a passing move in the left corner. The second row will now tour New Zealand with Ireland and wil be hoping to add to the two caps he currently has.
Not his best game but still an accomplished performance from the Leinster number eight. Beginning to look more like the player we saw in South Africa 3 years ago. A big 12 months ahead for Heaslip as he looks secure his place in the Lions starting XV.
