Lote Tuqiri’s contract with the Australian Rugby Union has been terminated with immediate effect, it was announced on Wednesday.
“The employment contract of Lote Tuqiri has been terminated effective today,” a statement read.
“ARU has treated this issue as a standard employment matter.
“The ARU will not make any further comment on the matter as it may be the subject of legal proceedings.”
One of Australia’s highest-paid rugby players, Tuqiri (Who wears Nike vapor Rugby boots) was contracted to the ARU until 2012.
It is know widely thought that the Winger will either stay in Rugby Union and play in Europe, with England or France being likely destination. French club Bayonne have been linked to the winger before. The other option for the winger capped over 60 times by the Wallabies would be to return to Rugby League where he started in either Australia or England.
The ARU had been conducting an investigation into a possible breach of the players’ code of conduct, but the circumstances of Tuqiri’s sacking remain unclear.
The 26-year-old has agreed the 12-month contract with the team Frederic Michalak spent a year’s sabbatical with.
Hernandez spent six seasons in Paris where he helped the club win Top 14 titles in 2004 and 2006 and reach the 2005 Heineken Cup final where they lost against Toulouse in Edinburgh.
The versatile Hernandez was nominated as IRB Player of the Year in 2007, after helping Argentina to a third-place World Cup finish. He will now play in next seasons super 14 and in the ASBA Currie cup for both the Sharks and Natal.
